Digital Love Sausage - The best thing since sliced sausage!
Digital Love Sausage first came into the public attention in 1996 when the band was picked by the Saint Charles Police Department to 'crank down the volume' on a weekly basis. The band was started by a few people in high school, as a way to pass time and frustration on the weekends. The band rehearsed in Chris' parents house until the frustrations and paranoia of the police department finding his stash of alcohol and pot became too much, along with Justin succumbing to lethargy when it came to moving his drum set.
The band relocated to Justin's parents basement, and the creative process began with two important elements. 1 - none of us knew how to play any of the same songs and 2 - with this statement from Justin "we can't play or write any songs that have to do with satan, sex, or drugs, or my parents will get pissed at me." Naturally, that is what most of the bands songs are about.
Their debut album Swallow the Sausage (1996) was the first compilation of their recordings. It featured Chris Lafser on guitar and vocals, Jer Zanitsch on Keyboards and vocals, Brandon Armstrong on bass and vocals, Jonathan Kies on bass, Justin Lee on drums and vocals, and Quincy Willenborg on whatever the hell he does (mostly camera work). This work would not only encompass their varied musical styles, from jazz, tribal, noise, rock, funk, and metal, but would also birth some of their greatest hits.
Their sophomore release Love the Sausage (1997) began to show a more unique sound and taste for aural destruction with songs like Testicles of Insanity and P.M.S. (Post Mortem Sex). This would also feature all of the guys from Swallow the Sausage and was the beginning of many hours of laughter at Justin's expense, beginning the cd with the song Ovarian Stream (a song ridiculing his other band at the time, Oblivion Stream).
The bands third release, Moose Porn (1999) began to show higher production value and structure to the writing process. The same line up exists with the addition of Brian Wohldmann on bass. As the members were all older and working jobs at this point, they began to use better equipment for a new soundscape of noise and terror. Topics for songs began to encompass the ridicule of other people and events for their own amusement.
The forth release, Ramadan (2001) was written and recorded on the eve of Ramadan that year. Better riffs and vented up anger led to a more intense display of sexual angst towards not only other people's mothers, but anything to ever exist. This cd also added Chad Kies on guitar and vocals.
The fifth release, Sausage Level Event (2002) only featured Chris, Jer, and Justin and is regarded as one of their most brutal but honest works yet. The intention was for Chris and Jer to drive Justin insane for always playing way too loud with the most insane noises fathomable. It was an instant success, as the title track, Sausage Level Event, describes an alien race of sausages coming to earth to destroy Justin with sonic terror. Justin was forced out of the band with this one.
The first five cd's are not for sale and only available through Chris and Jer.
In 2005, a new era was ushered in with the release of Digital Love Sausage : Greatest Hits. This album took some of the best tracks from the original five and were re-recorded and mixed to be listenable and enjoyable for someone other than the band members. Chris and Jer, the only members left in the band up to today, did everything on this one. This cd also included rapping and keyboard solos.
Digital Love Sausage then released Sausage Fest (2009), with all new music and became an instant success with people they made listen to it. Many different styles were added, including pop. This cd discussed more topics such as the horrible state of American media, the music and recording industry, and Justin's stories of sex as well as animal sex and many other topics highly inappropriate. Matthew Mungavin performed as a guest vocalist on the song Mungavin Shut the Fuck Up.
Bacon Grease (2011) is a second greatest hits album, again featuring songs they liked re-recorded and mixed as to be tolerable for others. This cd has been noted as having a darker sound than its predecessor. It also features a previously unreleased track Brian's Arrival.Sausage Level Event (2012) is the newest release from DLS, which is half a remake of the original Sausage level Event and the other half all new material. The story is similar to the original Sausage Level Event with many more characters, twists, and turns. The sound is much better and one of the heaviest albums released by the boys so far.

Overall the band's mission remains the same, to proclaim jihad against the music industry, annoy stupid people, create art and noise, and to entertain themselves writing music about topics people should not even discuss for the basis of perverted humor.
