Rowan was 18 when he traveled to Mongolia for the first time. He immediately came in, probably, the best location of Mongolia; a small village in the far west of the country. This village, Chandmani, was said to be the “birthplace” of khuumii, throat singing. His stay in this small village inspired him to discover the musical traditions of this country in the next years to come.

Now, a few years later he managed to learn this traditional vocal art. In his travels to Mongolia he learned many things about Mongolian culture, with specific focus on the music. The thing Rowan would like to do the most is to share his discoveries and studies with many other people, who might have never heard of this music. In his first CD “Herinnering” (“Memory”) he sings both Mongolian as well as dutch songs. The dutch songs are written by himself, and his first step to promote this vocal art with dutch audience.
