Topi con le ali is a musical collective originating from Turin, composed of artists and musicians. The project was conceived and led by Ciccino, the main author, composer, and producer of the group. In addition to his creative influence, Topi con le ali relies on Laura as the lead vocalist, Stefano and Davide on guitars, and a chorus consisting of numerous participants.
The band's name, "Topi con le ali," was chosen to symbolically represent artists as creatures operating in the shadows, in the hidden realm of society. Similar to mice that "steal," artists draw from the existing to create their art. The wings, on the other hand, represent freedom and the opportunity to soar above the restrictions that imprison individuals. This name reflects the collective's desire to fight their fears and break free from the chains that hold them back.
Topi con le ali's songs are born from instrumentals produced by Ciccino, who draws inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including Amon Tobin, Massive Attack, Bluvertigo, Kanye West, Portishead, and various film soundtracks. After creating the musical foundations, the lyrics are written and recorded in a single day, with some recordings retained for their "special and magical aura."
Their debut album, titled "TCLA," was released on May 25, 2023. The album's tracks blend a variety of musical styles, including alternative electronic, ska, blues, indie music, and psychedelic pop. The song lyrics are entirely in Italian, narrating a collective story in plural form. The album is conceived as a concept album, where the ten tracks combine to form a story that unfolds in just over half an hour. Despite the sonic unity, the group always aims to surprise the audience.
Regarding social media, Topi con le ali maintain a certain distance. Promotion is primarily handled by Ciccino or other members of the group, while the band members themselves avoid posting promotional content in the first person, focusing instead on the artistic aspect of their work. They have an Instagram profile with a single post, maintaining a minimalist approach. On YouTube, however, they have a more visible presence, directly uploading music videos, the entire album, and a fun podcast titled "Podcast Sabotato," where they discuss the tracks.
