PUSHER DeVILLE
• Its 1977 and Dixie Hills is the setting for Atlanta’s arrival of a young man from
Detroit. Shortly after coming here, this young man who would become Pusher
DeVille, moves to College Park. The story begins.
• Representing the “old school” Atlanta, Pusher comes from the original culture and
era where from the Atlanta the world knows today was molded. Polo and
Volkswagens with kits. Asymmetric hair styles and 80’s pop music. This is “old
school” Atlanta. This is where Pusher DeVille is from.
• After a brief stint at Clark Atlanta University, Pusher elected to drop out and face
the new world through the emergence of “HIP HOP” and begin his trek to bring
the Atlanta experience to the forefront. Having a huge voice, it was immediately
clear that Pusher DeVille was going to carve out his own distinct space in music.
Living wild in the 90’s, pushin, hustling, rhyming, Pusher developed a unique
perspective on how he would exhibit such “lifestyle rap” and makes it the
signature genre of Atlanta Hip Hop.
• In the 2000’s, after being taken through the ringer, giving everything he could,
after having major and independent deals but not ever taking the reins, moved
back to his original home in Detroit and basically retired from the rap game and
became a bar owner. Well, in 2007 Pusher was approached by his extensive
family in Atlanta and convinced by them to come back home and give the rap
game one last go. Obliging, Pusher DeVille went on a studio tear over the winter
and completed the “Since White Shoes” album. In the process, Pusher recorded
what is quickly becoming the hottest song in the country-Fred Sanford.
