The history of the group begins in 1984 when Sixto Ayvar founded Alborada in his hometown, Ocobamba. His music, basically inspired by the folklore of the Peruvian Andes, was taken by Sixtucha to German lands, finally settling in the city of Colonia. Already there, his musician's ear is broadened by all the genres and styles that coexist in a cosmopolitan city, giving a different sensitivity to the instruments regardless of their origin. Traditional Andean music, in the hands and voices of Alborada, is modernized, renewed.
In the beginning, the support and drive of the renowned Manuelcha Prado and Julio Humala was fundamental.
But many other names passed through Alborada, different experiences and nationalities. With all of them Alborada was experimenting and venturing into different musical forms, but always with his particular and characteristic style. From the strictly traditional to fusion and music for meditation. In the production "Tropical" they approach the most contemporary dance rhythms. In the series "Melodies of the Heart" and "Unforgettable Melodies" they explore the popular rhythms of the West.
But it is with the arrival of Víctor Valle and Lennin de la Torre that the new sound of Alborada is born. In addition to the new styles and rhythms that they bring from their respective communities, they have gained experiences from visiting indigenous cultures in Canada and the United States. These new experiences become manifest from his production "Meditation", where Alborada implies that his new sound goes much more than a simple stylistic issue. Behind the new proposal lies the arduous task of creating cultural bridges between human groups capriciously separated by history. It must be taken into account that many years ago the indigenous traditions of North and South America knew how to feed each other, so Alborada with his adventurous and renewing spirit wanted to travel the opposite path to that of the conquistadors, bringing the traditions of these peoples closer.
In the last albums "Caminos al Sol" or "Instrumental" we can notice the dizzying changes that the group experiences. New instruments are incorporated, such as those from the East. In the same way, a new Alborada costume is created by Sixto, inspired by the costumes worn by the Peruvian Scissor Dancers.
Although Alborada participated with other international groups such as the Bolivian "Savia Andina" and "Los Kjarkas", they only received the support of the Peruvian public when they performed at the music festival that took place in the Parque de Lima in March 2004. In this musical festival and 22 years after its foundation, Alborada managed to bring together 22 musicians, including its recent addition: Wilber "Cebollita" Ayvar.
Now Alborada is no longer just the folk music group, it is now an artistic proposal that includes music, dance and visual performances, so each presentation is a novel event.
The coupling of the guitars of Ronald Contreras from Ayacucho is admirable; Oscar Cavero, guitarist of Armando Manzanero and Felipe Pumarada, bassist of Eva Ayllón. Likewise, César Lescano, Gian Marco's drummer, and percussionists Kike Herrera, Leonardo "Gigio" Parodi, also Eva Ayllón's musician, and Hugo Bravo, the latter winner of a Grammy with Susana Baca, showsTheir capacity for dialogue with the Andean. There is tenderness in the voices of the choirs in charge of July Pumarada, Claudia García and the singing teacher Julio Zavala. The classical and modern note is placed by César Pacheco on cello and the concert pianist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru, María Elena Pacheco on violin. And all under the baton and arrangements of Iván Raffo Lazarte.
In the count we have more than 16 productions, a lot of talent, airs of innovation and a great love for what is ours. Alborada will continue to walk hand in hand with those who hear and esteem them.
