The Believe It Or Nots formed in Lawrence, KS, in the summer of 1995. The band consisted of four members, Michael Angeletti (lead vocals, guitar), Greg Franklin (guitar, backing vocals), Brad Leckron (bass) and John Nguyen (drums). Michael and Brad had attended Lawrence High School together, and enrolled at the University of Kansas in 1994. They met John in Hashinger Hall (a dormitory at KU), and during a Queers show, the flippant decision to play together was hastily made. John had recently bought a JC Penney’s drum kit, and had been looking for people to play with. Thus spawned The Believe It Or Nots.
As time flew by, the band played many house parties and several open mic shows. However, they decided they needed to fill out their sound a bit more. Matt Dunehoo of the Kansas City band Proudentall referred them to Greg, his neighbor in Hashinger Hall dormitory. Greg had been in a bunch of bands that never played outside of their basement (much less decided on names). He auditioned for the band in March of 1997 and was quickly accepted.
The Believe It Or Nots played numerous shows in their home of Lawrence, with the likes of Hum, Kill Creek, Boys Life, Everest, Proudentall, and many other local acts. The band’s sound is varied, very poppy, with strong rock undertones. They cited influences as everyone from Jawbreaker and Superchunk to Rocket From the Crypt, Pavement and The Beatles. Just as their debut CD, "There's a Great Future in Plastics" was released, Mike decided to leave the band, as he was moving away from the area. This forced the band to call it quits after playing one final blow-out show. Read more on Last.fm.
