Fingers In The Sky formed in early 2009 when four 1st year students: Andriques, Leigh, Wilton and Aidan discovered that all their free time (the privilege of studying towards a bachelor of the arts degree), could be put to good use by coming together and making a lot of noise with a guitar, a djembe, and a harmonica. The troupe of would-be musicians began to have indefinite jamming sessions, mostly in the drummer’s back yard, and soon began to infuriate uptight commerce lecturers, and other stressed accounting students at their home university, who have nothing better to do but count indefinitely themselves. Within a year of playing together and a great deal practice and evolution within the band, people began to take note of the young band of beach loving brothers, and fingers were raised in delight instead of the usual bureaucratic pointing. It wasn't long before an amazing guitarist Riaan made the five fingered hand complete with his mind-melting solo's. Fingers In The Sky was born. Taking influence from genre’s as far apart as blues and 80’s glam rock, they play an almost schizophrenic yet melodically satisfying brand of what one can only describe as uniquely South African indie rock.
