Bio – English/German:

Jason Rigby (* 2 December 1974 is an American jazz musician (tenor saxophone, also flute and bass clarinet).

Life and work
Jason Rigby, a native of Cleveland, first studied with Ernie Krivda and played in his Fat Tuesday Big Band during his high school years in the mid-1990s, making his first recordings with the band (Perdido, 1996). He then studied music at Youngstown State University in Ohio, where he had lessons with Tony Leonardi, played in the YSU Jazz Ensemble and earned his Bachelor's degree (summa cum laude). He completed his master's degree at New York's Manhattan School of Music; he also had private lessons with Dick Oatts, Rich Perry and Mike Abene. During this time he was awarded the Down Beat Award for Best College Instrumentalist.

Since 1998 Rigby has been active primarily in the New York jazz scene; he has since worked with Eivind Opsvik (Overseas, 2002), Scott DuBois, Kris Davis (Life Span, 2004), Pete McGuinness, Mark Guiliana, Jeff Davis and Jon Irabagon, among others. In 2005 he recorded his debut album Translucent Space (Fresh Sound New Talent) with Soo-Kyung Park, Mike Holober, Cameron Brown and Mark Ferber, among others. Rigby is "known for his captivating inside-outside improvisations"; according to Down Beat, Rigby's tenor sound "reflects the expressionistic [high] flights of Ornette Coleman and Joe Henderson."

In jazz, he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 1998 and 2012. In the 2010s, he worked with Kyle Eastwood, Mike Holober (Hiding Out, 2019), and in the trio projects Double Drums (with Jeff Davis and Mark Ferber), Heavy Merge (with Russ Lossing, Jeff Davis), and the Detroit-Cleveland Trio with Gerald Cleaver and Cameron Brown, among others. He has taught at the City College of New York, The New School, and Stony Brook University. In 2017 he released the album ONE (Fresh Sound New Talent) with his Detroit-Cleveland Trio; in 2018 he participated in Miho Hazama's Grammy-nominated production Dancer in Nowhere.
