A three-piece rock outfit from South Africa, Schools was formed in 2014 in the heart of Woodstock, known to many as Cape Town’s burgeoning artistic hub.

Schools features Lindy-Lee Prince on vocals, Francois Louw on guitar and Sakkie van Zyl on drums. Long-time friends and musicians, Francois and Sakkie decided to join forces and held auditions for a new project that stood apart from all the masculine voices in rock music today. Amidst a long queue of eager Enya’s, Lindy emerged with her uniquely warm, yet bluesy vocal tones. Schools was officially in session.

The name ‘Schools’ stems from an extraordinary coincidence: all three members are anthropologists – and hence from the same academic background or ‘schools’ of thought. ‘The Ants’ was just not gonna float.

While rock-centric, Schools’ tunes are musically diverse and draw from pop, blues, country and indie genres – anything that makes you ‘clap’ and go ‘yeah’. The band recently recorded a 3-track EP, titled Sessions, at Popsicle Studios in Woodstock, and will soon release a music video for its first single.
