The Pants Situation formed when they were still in High School. Dan Laplante (Bass, Synth, Tambourine) Greg Newman(Lead Guitar), and Joey Mooney (Drums) all attended the same high school. They met Brady Kirchner (Vocals, Rythm Guitar), and thus the band was formed. They played Battles of the Bands, and recorded their first EP, "The West Ocean" all before breaking into the Calgary rock scene. The first taste was experienced playing a 15 minute set in 2004, opening up for the Stars Here and several other bands at Carpenters Union Hall. It would be months before the Pants Situation played their first official show.

On October 9th, 2004, the Pants were asked to play a show in the Alexandra Centre basement. The lineup was packed full of young Calgary bands and acoustic acts. The show did surprisingly well, and even with the size of the room, the band played to a packed house. Old and new were shocked at how well the band played. The set was recorded with a tape recorded and some of those live tracks can still be heard. This was the first hearing for most of future Pants tracks like "Time To Spawn Some Ducks." The show was a great success, and every copy of the West Ocean the band brought to the show sold out.

After this the band began to be thrown some well deserved hype, playing in halls and basements around the city. Brady then joined forces with Craig Fahner and several other Calgary musicians to play with the short lived Punk Rock/Indie band Sudan Four. After a set in the sweaty basement now known as "the Ark" (to the name of the tenant, Noah Rebenovitch), Sudan Four disbanded with little fuss.

Before Decemeber grew close, a makeshift tongue and cheek Post-Punk band was formed. The first conception was to include Jordan Hossack (now of Azeda Booth) on vocals - but at one of the first practices, Craig Fahner took the helm, as Brady played bass, Sarah Ford on keys and Jesse Locke on drums. They recorded the Nirvana song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as a joke, and "Davidian Branch". These recordings got around, and soon the new band (Sudden Infant Dance Syndrome) had a show.

The Pants Situation kept playing shows around the city, packing the Ark, Alex, and other Calgary hot spots full of kids who wanted to have a good time. As they went on, the songs became better and better.

Several band members developed a strong interest for the "Grind", as Dan Laplante put it. But as time went on, the band got stronger and stronger, and the shows became wilder. At one show at the Cliff Bungalow Hall, someone even broke their arm during the bands set. The Pants Situation were being compared to Calgary's former all ages darlings, the Minks.

The Pants Situation went into the studio to record "The Ugly Man" with Calgary producer Casey Lewis after they signed with Lukes records. As their popularity grew, so did a small backlash, as well as a slight disinterest from band members.

The band hasn't played a show in months, but their so-called "final show" is slotted for this September. It will also be the release party for SIDS first full length cd. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
