2020Soundsystem have forged a name for themselves as one of the best new live bands in the UK. They have established themselves firmly in the festival circuit as well as building up their reputation through the world of underground clubs, festivals and dirty discos. Their debut album No Order in 2006 was received with universal acclaim, earning them 5 star reviews and album of the month in all the best music magazines. Over the past year they have toured from Argentina to Australia and all across Europe as well as rocking major festivals such as Sonar, T in the park, Monegros, Skolbeats, Exit, Global Gathering, Creamfields, Fortdance and 10 days off.
2020Soundsystem was started by Ralph Lawson and Danny “dubble d” Ward when they first joined forces to produce ‘Stars on 33’ compilation for Fat City records. Lawson was looking for a way to mix diverse recordsfrom 1975-2005 and many were not done on computers so standard DJ beat mixing was not an option. The due came up with a plan for Lawson to spin the tracks over DD's live drums. When a speed up was needed or a sudden change out of a break, they quickly found they could get it tight. This was the first step towards 2020Soundsystem as they are today. The project was truly kicked off when recent arrivals from Argentina Fernando Pulichino and Julian Sanza sent 2020 their Silver City demo. Lawson heard the guy’s ability to play and as if by magic live keys and bass were added to the outfit. At first it was a jam around Ralph’s DJ sets, but as the relationship grew original material started to come out of the sessions. The crew played very much as a dubstyle soundsystem for the first two years and then started experimenting with adding vocalists, firstly with Diane Charlemagne, who famously sang on Goldie’s Inner City Life, Dominique from NYC band The Glass and more recently bass player Fernando. 2020soundsystem seek to go step by step and add as they see fit. The core four can rock any gig as a four piece but sometimes add guests on stage.
In the studio the band have a vast amount of experience between them, producing remix work for Fat Boy Slim, Felix da Housecat, Nightmares on Wax, Blaze, Chicken Lips, Rae and Christian, James Holden, AIM, Peace Division, Dirt Crew, Mondo Grosso among many others.
The guys are currently producing their second album which is chalked up for release in 2009. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
