Rest and Relaxation are a rock band from Norwich, England (AKA City of Angels). Actually, if you want to be more specific, a power-pop-indie-garage-punk-rock band, although that’s probably a bit much?
Fully-grown men Jem Eaves (guitar/vocals) and Carl Godbold (drums/vocals) have been together in bands for many years (including most recently, Big Success), and get on really, really well together.
On asking a load of people what they sound like, here are some responses:
“Quintessentially English with undercurrents of the CBGBs scene, specifically The Feelies.”
“Definite overtones of Felt and the C86 bands of the period.”
“Elements of the Replacements, charmingly technical punk rock, and late 90s/early 00s indie rock.”
In terms of influence and some kind of sound comparison, there are clear recurring periods; the late Seventies (Ramones, Talking Heads, DEVO, AC/DC), the mid-Eighties (The Replacements, Husker Du, Huey Lewis & The News), and the late Nineties/early-00s (Built to Spill, Les Savy Fav, The Promise Ring, The Strokes). However, the band is not nostalgic. They enjoy the exploration of the craft of pop songwriting with the elements of music that they’ve grown to love over the years; simplicity, immediacy, energy, good hooks, and everything overdriven.
The debut EP, ‘EP 1’ is out now (released 13/01/18).
