There are a least five bands bands with the name The Key.
1. The Key was a band from Northern California, United States, who played punk-influenced songs. They were active in Portland, OR, between 2002 and 2005 and recorded two albums. Band members: Luke Janela, Keith Feigin, Tyler Booth, Kristian Akin.
2. The Key was a band from Germany and England, formed by Volker Langefeld and Alan Warren. Their album 'Fit Me In' (1978) was heavily influenced by The Beatles. The record, which sold well, was rereleased on CD by Revola Records and is typified by this label as "a largely undiscovered jewel in the 1970s power-pop crown".
3. The Key was a North American band consisting of Billy Sherwood (lead vocals, bass, keyboards), Marty Walsh (guitar, harmonica, backing vocals) and Hugh Meign (drums, backing vocals). Billy Sherwood and Marty Walsh first met when Billy was in the band Lodgic and Marty was working as the guitarist for the band Supertramp. They performed on the same bill at two shows in Los Angeles in 1986 and got back together for work on some songs together. The trio Civilian was established, but the band was short-lived, as Supertramp came calling for Walsh. However, they remained close and continued writing and recording songs to shop to other artists. In 1993 they decided to start writing again. This material was recorded under the name The Key and would eventually be released on an album called 'The World Is Watching'.
4. The Key was a West London proto-psychedelic beat quartet formed in 1964, originally as The Sidekicks. Their line-up included Peter Daltrey (vocals), Eddie Pumer (guitar), Steve Clark (bass) and Dan Bridgman (drums). The Sidekicks played the local pub and club circuit, sometimes appearing on the same bill as fellow hopefuls The High Numbers (later The Who). The Sidekicks played Stones-influenced material and R&B covers. By late 1965 the band had changed their name to The Key, a name change that coincided with an update of their image and style. They recorded their début single, 'Holidaymaker' (1966), but it was never released. The Key decided to change their name once again, becoming Kaleidoscope. 'Holidaymaker' was later included on beat and psych compilations.
5. The Key is a progressive psych-trance collaboration between Hector Stuardo (aka Ovnomoon) and Bojan Stoljikovik (aka Ascent). They have released an album ('Light Within The Darkness') on BMSS Records, and an EP. Read more on Last.fm.
