The Roosterz are a Reggae/Ska/Rocksteady band from the province of Drenthe in The Netherlands. As one of the few ska-oriented bands in this area, the band members come from the cities of Coevorden, Emmen and Meppel. Most members are Dutch but there is also a little flavor of Asian, south European and south American vibes in the band.

A long time advertising in search for reggae and ska musicians finally resulted in Jorge (drums) and Menoj (bass) finding each other. And after mailing to-and-fro for a few months, they decided to meet up in the summer of 2008 and talk about starting a band. Soon a good friend, Patrick (saxophone and vocals), joined the two and with this threesome the first jam was a reality.
Only a couple of meetings later, learning each other tricks and playing some music together, there was a need for more musicians. But in these regions there are not many musicians playing reggae and ska, let alone finding them. It promised to be a shear impossible task… so they thought!
But in Coevorden, just a few kilometers from Emmen, a second group of reggae-fanatics were also trying to form a reggae band. Wilmar (guitar and vocals), Vincent (guitar and vocals) and Chris (keyboards). And both groups didn't know each other if it wasn’t for one man.
Jorge (drums) knew Martin (member of an animal protection organization called Ganzen Paradijs, friend and fellow-townsman of Wilmar and Vincent). One thing led to another and both groups met in the lovely sights of Valthe. Now the group went from 3 to 7 members, with all the right ingredients. This was a chance waiting to happen.
In a few weeks they started playing their first jams. Berdien (saxophone), also joined them in this experience but unfortunately she decided to leave a few weeks later.
By the end of the summer they had six musicians ready to play and to make something out of it. Their next goal was finding a place where they could practice. The guys from Huize Spoorloos, a squat in the city of Emmen, opened their doors for The Roosterz and their weekly jams. Just until they’d find a place of their own.
Timo (trombone) a good friend of Patrick (saxophone) joined them in September 2008, and with his big trombone the sound became heavier.
By the beginning of 2009 they found a new place to practice their music, a room in the village of ‘t Haantje, Dutch for "the little rooster". This village inspired them finding a name for the band as well, but only in the end of May they decided to call themselves “The Roosterz”.
In February 2009 they welcomed a new member in the band, Janina (flute and vocals). She brought a new dimension to the band’s sound with her voice and her flute.
Since then the band’s composition has not changed and they already played their first gig at Huize Spoorloos, in the city of Emmen, June 27th 2009. It was a Roosterz promise to play their first gig at Huize Spoorloos, in appreciation of what they have done for them in the past...
