Martin Mazánek was born on June 4th, 1979 in Hodonín in the Czech Republic. He graduated in Composition from Music Conservatory in Ostrava in 2002. Since 2001 Martin Mazánek studies musicology at the Masaryk University in Brno. He reached a bachelor degree (2005) and master degree (2007) in musicology. Now he continues in studies at the doctorate level and also holds a post of lector at the Faculty of Arts – Masaryk University in Brno. He lectures Introduction to the PC, Introduction to the PC notation, Advanced PC notation and Theory of Sound Recording.
The main fields of interest lie in composition and conducting. His pieces do not only apply to one style or composition technique. You can find works for chamber and symphonic orchestra as well as vocal-instrumental pieces in his production. Recently he has specialized in film music. His works are often characterized by lyric wide melodies, free form (which is under the influence of its purpose) and multilayer harmony. His music has often some other non-music distinct meaning and purpose. At the contrary to some constructive works of the 20th century he is always trying to say something to the listener and to express some story, mood or feelings.
Most of his latest pieces are premiered by the Chamber Orchestra of Faculty of Arts which he established and leads. Members of the orchestra are mainly students of the Masaryk University.
