Formed in fall of 2000, Scarlet Empyrean is a band whose music is difficult to characterize. Leaning toward the more melodic realm of metal, their music is an intricately woven combination of the members' vastly varied influences, paired with vocals which are primarily inspired by black metal.

The band's current lineup consists of the three founding members: Thenyia (guitar), Randy (guitar), and Jerry (percussion). Previous members include Eric Maestas (bass and backing vocals, now guitarist of Mourning to Mercy), Franz Sturm (vocals), and John Paez (vocals, bass, and keyboards, now devoting full musical efforts to Ad Noctum). Scarlet Empyrean is currently seeking a new vocalist, as well as a new bassist.
