“Renny J” is actually Reunald C. P. Jones III, born on November 1st, 1958, in New York City, and one of the premier accomplished bass players of recent years. Renny J’s grandfather & father (Reunald Sr. & Jr. respectively) were well known & accomplished trumpet players. Reunald Sr. (“Jonesy”) played with Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, The Famous Flames, the JB’s (both James Brown's band), & Nat King Cole.
Reunald Jr. (“Bo”) played w/ James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., Louie Bellson, Motown & other well-known artists. You can hear his signature trumpet every time you hear the “Sanford & Son” & “Ironside” theme song. Because of Renny J’s unique playing style, he has recorded w/ Parliament (“Clones of Dr. Funkenstein album), Donna Summer, Toni Braxton, and a host of artists.
Renny J was raised in the Williamsburg/Bed Stuy section of Brooklyn, NY, and made his first recording in 1987 of “Her”, “Season Of Love”, & Angel Of My Dreams”, writing all the music himself and playing all the instruments, as he plays the bass guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, and keyboards.
