Born Raphael Luis Molina- Molinari
Raphael fist took an interest in Electronic music at a very young in 1986 after a party that he bought a fake id to get into. Due to his up bringing in a creative household, Raphael first started creating mixes by taking cassettes apart and creatively splicing and masking together sections of a cassette creating a whole. In the winter of 86 he got his first pair of turntables and began to spin records and create mix tapes for the local area breakdancers whom always wanted his latest mix for their battles. In comes, Scott "La rock" Sterling of the legendary group Boogie Down Productions whom saw Raphael's passion for mixing classics with a new school flavor. Scott began to mentor and mold Raphael until is untimely demise in August of 87. Raphael fell in to despair. Nearly 9 months went by until he meets a girl who would revolutionize everything he knew about Djing and the music to come. She asks him to go to his first ever warehouse party in Coney Island where he discovers a new sound and therefor rekindling is desire to get back on the decks. His first break happened at a club called Danceteria, where he dj'd every Friday night for 3 months. On Saturday nights he went to the Palladium, Limelight, Sound Factory and the legendary Tunnel Club to see what the djs were playing. Along the way he meets James St James, Micheal Alig, DJ Keoki (Alig's former boyfriend), Angel Melendez, RuPaul, Amanda Lepore, Sophia Lamar, Robert "Freeze" Riggs, Lisa Edelstein (Lisa E), Astro Erle, Keda, Ben Garstka, Sacred Boy, Jenny Talia, Kabuki, Lahoma, Desi Monster, Richie Rich, Walt Paper, Christopher Comp, Spygirl, and Gitsie (Cynthia Haadje), Afrika Bambaataa, and Julie Julz. Raphael, after his experiences in N.Y.C. club/ underground scene makes a journey to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he decides to take a rest. Gets in to surfing and begins to shape surfboards at a local shop. The music, still warm in his soul is calls to him. With the little money he made at the surfshop, he used it to find distressed properties in Norfolk and began to start throwing underground parties showcasing Industrial and Techno music (What it was called at the time). Raphael began to experiment with "psychedelic" methods. He started to add guitar Fx peddles to his mixing console so it would allow him to "Spice" up the music and create audio landscapes. One night upon returning to his apartment, he sees a Oregon tourism commercial and decides to just pack up his turntables and records and some clothes into his 75' TR7 and began to drive out west. Arriving in Portland, Oregon during the Spring of 92 he meets Chris Iverson whom was opening a concept club. The Scream (Later called The Park Avenue) revolutionized everything in Portland. Before there were Jamba Juice, Wheat grass bars there was The Smart Bar located inside the Scream nightclub which served vitamin rich smoothies and natural energy elixirs. There was also a Chill room which was littered with throw pillows, bean bags florissant caricatures painted on the walls and atmospheric music playing. Truly a cutting edge club. The roster of djs were Agent 086( Chris Weir), Chris Kopper & Nicodemus (Darrel J aka DJ) (Dj's in Sync), Dj Who (Hugh) & DjDaze (Raphael). In 1992 the club threw it's first ever 72 hr party which was a success. Raphael for the first time ever dj'd a 9hr set. Raphael djed at the Scream for 3 years until he took a break from the club and began to do underground events in the local Portland area. In 1994 Raphael discovers Trance Music and develops a fondness for it. He began to play Trance everywhere between Seattle to Tijuana. In 1997 he goes to Germany where he meets Andreas Tomalla (Talla 2XLC), André Tanneberger (At the time went under the name Danny D now ATB), Christopher von Deylen (Schiller), Ralph Armand Beck (Taucher) and many others whom in many ways influenced Raphael to take Trance music to different levels. Raphael discovers a lot about the music he loves when he goes to Ibiza after meeting Carlos Poniendez in Germany. He gets there and picks up a weekly along with local talent at El Divino in Ibiza city by the marina. He lived and worked there for 6 months. "It was like a dream" He exclaims. There he meets the great of the greats of Trance. Pete Tong, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, and many others. He get a chance to do guest spots @ Rohypnol, Pacha, Bora Bora Ibiza, Amnesia(One of the most beautiful open air clubs in Ibiza), Privilege & El Paradis . Raphael comes back to the US and instead of going back to New York he returns to Portland, Oregon. Where he meets Brent Mason and forges an alliance to form an all Trance dj crew called Cosmic Groove Intelligentsia.
