Roadhouses, greasy bar-b-q's, 'Blues shacks, festivals in Holland, Spain, Portugal, UK, Ireland, Belgium and Germany. There's other ways to grind the teeth but this is how JP Rena encountered the music. Together with his band Terrawheel he finally is about to release and promote the first album they recorded for Corazong Records. Jean Paul was raised in an artistic home filled with music and art. Mostly African chants, Jazz and Rock and Roll mixed with a little Bob Dylan was heard in the home environment.
Being born in Holland and because so called 'black music' was relatively new to the audience there, this music was "in and happening" and so exciting that it lead JPR to search for more. Without no doubt this lead him the shortest way to Blues (finding his way to the wave of British blues and rock at a later stage). Even though the family disliked it (his father saw him rather become an artistic painter) JPR, fascinated by the shape and sound of the electric guitar, became a 'guitar slinger'. For years JP played all kinds of music but always kept falling back to the habitual feel of the Blues and Rock and Roll.
"It was always like coming home from a fatiguing trip" he recalls. Pop, Rock, Folk, bossa nova's and avant-garde never got him the kick other people got out of it. So, "why not doing what you love most and what comfort you the best?" Jean Paul started to move his own band into the direction he wanted.... "Rock and Roots". After years of performing with -/or supporting others he decided to front his own band to bring his "Crash and Burn" tunes to the world. So now with the release of the new CD "Introducing"...........
(Corazong Records, 2004) we would like to present: JEAN PAUL RENA & TERRAWHEEL
