Rival Waves is a rock band from Austin, Texas, fusing elements of alternative, grunge, indie, and permanent wave to craft powerful anthems wrapped in a vibrant, driving punk intensity. With a unique sonic aesthetic marrying the musical snarl of early Foo Fighters, the earnest, politically-charged lyricism of The Clash, and the distortion-soaked, indie sensibilities of Cloud Nothings, the band’s cathartic energy and lyrical volition serve to bridge the emotional connection between art and audience.

Evolved from a studio project by singer/songwriter Joel De La Garza that yielded 2018’s EP TRANSDUCER, Rival Waves began taking shape when De La Garza joined forces with guitar duo Marc Schulz and Erik Salinas to create a more collaborative and prolific band dynamic. The addition of drummer Paul Piñon and bassist David McLeod has seen Rival Waves evolve their sound into the melodic, heartfelt, and dangerous sonic electricity that has become their trademark.

The band has been steadily building its fanbase and refining its sound on premiere stages across Austin and the region. Rival Waves has honed their act by performing alongside international touring acts like Blue October, Bush, Okilly Dokilly, Jawbox, Young Rising Sons, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Rival Waves teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith (Jet, …Trail of Dead, Gary Clark Jr.) to record its debut LP, 'A Meaningless Chaos'. Tracked and mixed at The Bubble Recording Studios in Austin, TX, the album serves as an 11-track manifesto on overcoming the increasing madness engulfing our planet in recent years. The songs capture a live, raw immediacy that the times, and the album’s larger theme, reflect. The result is a powerfully purposeful collection of songs touching on the universal themes of love, loss, anger, fear and, ultimately, release.

'A Meaningless Chaos' and several of its featured tracks - “100M” “Monument” “Meaningless Chaos” and “Isla3” among them - have been featured on several media outlets and radio stations including KUTX, Sun Radio, KLBJ, KOOP, and 101X. Additionally, the album has been featured on radio stations in the UK, Australia, Germany, Brazil and France.
