Pomona, California

Ripping through the stereotypes, MC Prototype is a prime example of the positive hip-
hop movement that is gaining strength in Southern California’s Inland Empire. Hailing
from the City of Ontario, this poet and performer exudes both soulfulness and joy. Def
Poetry meets Def Comedy Jam. Add a reputation for his dose-of-humor flavor and
charismatic performances and you have MC Prototype.

His 2008 debut album, 3rd Notice, finds MC Prototype musing on life in the 21st century.
MC Prototype’s first single, “Daydream,” toys around with the idea of becoming
wealthy off of music by spending his riches on Nike tires, a sunroof with a telescope, and
a pink boat.

A founding member of the Inland Empire based collective The Urban Poets Crew, MC
Prototype is part of a family of professional graphic designers, producers, poets, and
sound engineers who devote their talents to creating music. MC Prototype is also a
member of the Empire Mindstate 2009 National Slam Team and has traveled the country
as a spoken-word artist and emcee. You can find him and his colleagues performing their
witty and wise words when he hosts “Urbane Culture” (a spoken-word open mic night)
every first and third Monday of the month at his Pomona venue, The Bakery.

His first EP, The Ones Overlooked, released to coincide with his performance at the Paid
Dues festival, expands on the consciousness found within 3rd Notice. MC Prototype
delves into more serious territory, including how we interact with the homeless and
elderly. The Ones Overlooked also includes “She Is,” a tribute to his wife and “Can’t
Hide,” the might-be-true story of a stalker.

MC Prototype’s peers have also elected him their candidate to perform at the Paid Dues
Independent Hip Hop Festival with his PROTO FOR PAID DUES Campaign, obtaining
signatures both digitally and on paper. The campaign found Proto popping up all around
the Southern California area, including a trolley, the Apple Store and even at the famous
Pink’s Hot Dogs in Los Angeles. Follow him on Twitter (@mcprototype) to find out
when and where he’ll pop up next.

“Great story teller with fun lyrics. I can't help but to smile when listening to Prototype’s
music. We need more of that!!!” – Scarub of Living Legends
