mildrage was a Japanese metalcore/post-hardcore band from Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, formed in March 2016. The original lineup consisted of vocalists MEG and t.e.p.p.e.i, guitarist Jun, bassist Kaz and drummer Kengo. The band’s sound incorporated a dual vocal approach, contrasting MEG’s clean vocals with t.e.p.p.e.i’s aggressive screams, and their lyrical themes centered on expressions of inner anger, sadness, suffering, and disappointment.

Before forming mildrage, the members except MEG had played together in high school, performing covers of metal bands like Bullet For My Valentine and Children of Bodom. However, their style did not resonate well with the audience at school, prompting the group to take a break. During this time, they became acquainted with MEG, who was singing in an all-female band covering SiM tracks. When her band dissolved, they invited her to join as a second vocalist, marking the official formation of mildrage. The band name was chosen by t.e.p.p.e.i, who explained that it combined the words “mild” and “rage” to reflect the contrast between outward composure and inner fury, symbolizing the duality of emotions that are often suppressed.

mildrage debuted with the single “Armeria”, which quickly gained traction, accumulating over a million listens and helping to establish the band’s popularity. Their first EP, also titled Armeria, was released on December 26, 2016, followed by their mini-album ROM in 2018, which included their well-known single “Silent Spear.” They released another EP, INSIDE, on December 19, 2018, and launched a tour from January to March 2019. Apart from that tour, mildrage performed with prominent metalcore acts such as Paledusk, Her Name in Blood, Earthists., and DEXCORE.

The band’s rising status in Japan’s heavy music scene led to appearances at significant music events, including “THE ROAD OF TRUE NORTH” hosted by Crystal Lake and “FUJIROCK ROOKIE A GO-GO” in 2019. They continued to evolve their sound with the release of “K.M.S.” in 2020, their first digital single. In 2021, mildrage released EMERGENCE, their first mini-album in over a year and a half, demonstrating a heavier, more forceful sound.

Amid these developments, bassist Kaz left the band in 2020, and guitarist Jun and drummer Kengo departed in 2021. On January 12, 2022, mildrage announced their decision to disband, holding a final live performance at Shibuya CYCLONE, which they streamed for fans. Following the breakup, t.e.p.p.e.i performed live with Gaku Taura’s project Soul Japan, while MEG transitioned to focus on a new band called POOL, shifting to a more RnB and pop-oriented sound.
