Hans Green (born Andrei Dreglea, May 23rd, 1994) is a Moldovan-born Romanian singer, songwriter, record producer and dancer. He's known for his self-revealing project Now You Know and for Run Uma, which is a tribute to one of the most notorious American female serial killers, Aileen Wuornos, as well as for his online presence. His musical style is based on combination of avant-pop, downtempo, trip-hop, electronic and pop.
Andrei Dreglea was born on May 23rd, 1994 in Tăura Veche, Republic of Moldova. He is, as the vast majority of Moldovan population, of Romanian descent. He speaks Romanian, English and Russian.
Green left his native country at the age of 14, just a year before graduating gymnasium and left to Romania with his older sister (Iana) to keep studying arts at the National College of Arts "Octav Băncilă, Iași. He undertook one year of ballet lessons and then graduated 4 years of Drama.
After the graduation of College, Green moved to London, UK to try to pursue an independent life, an acting career, hoping to also start his higher education in the Fine Arts of Drama after being successfully accepted at few Universities. His one year experience in London left Hans with what he calls "a sour taste and an awakening slap on the cheek". After several and constant trials at finding a job that would allow him to have time to also start his University degree, Andrei gets a position in a British telecommunications company, from which he very soon gets fired and determines him to return back to Republic of Moldova and start focusing on creating music and finding his sound.
In 2016, back to his home country, Hans Green starts writing his own music. In 2017 he moves to Reykjavík, Iceland and starts polishing some of his demos. Only in 2019 on May 16th, he decides to release his first single or as he prefers to call it "a project" titled Now You Know. The downtempo track inspired by the tunes of Nicholas Jaar and Bonobo is almost entirely an instrumental song with only a couple of faded vocals of Green in the background. It came accompanied with a music video released on YouTube, produced and directed by Green and created by his friend, the London-based photographer and videographer Alexandru Luchita. The music video reveals in the end Green's differently-abled right hand, which doesn't have its born developed palm to it. Green describes the concept of the video as an act of courage for himself to step in the music industry with proudness and self-acceptance. The scenes were shot in his house in Reykjavík and on several other locations along Iceland.
A few months later, Hans Green releases his first single titled Run Uma. The single was released independently on September 10 on all the streaming platforms and also came with a music video, produced and directed by himself and created by the Moldovan director and videographer Nicu Dragan. The music video which was filmed in his hometown Chișinău starred Green and his best friend, the singer, songwriter and the lead singer of the Austrian band Parov Stelar, Karafizi.
The first artists who influenced Green were Beyoncé, Adele and James Blake. Later musicians like Jamie Woon, Nicholas Jaar, FKA Twigs, Sevdaliza, London Grammar, Banks, Kimbra, Oscar and the Wolf and Yates influenced him to make up his mind about how he'd like his sound to be designed and how he'd want to express himself.
