Sekoya's complex compositional form, jazz influenced broken beats, sophisticated electronic sound manipulation, ground breaking vocal styling, socially and politically charged lyrics and intelligent horn arrangements are all in a genre defying singer/songwriter style. James Graham of New Music Canada, CBC, calls Sekoya an "Introduction to Soul in Motion".
