Who the fuck is Curtis Plum? We don’t know. You don’t know. He doesn’t know. But here he is, the oddest signing in SFR’s history.

We don’t know Curtis Plum beyond his music and a couple email exchanges. Never met him. All we know is he is from Idaho, sometimes he suffers from clinical depression (which is masked quite well in his music) and he’s a funny, unique character. His music is low-fi, recorded in his bedroom, and besides the production help from Reanimator on “Bike Cop” all the music is self-produced.

We’ll end this bio with the last email he sent us:

“Part of me still doesn’t want to use my real name and maybe go with Curtis P. on the other hand plums are purple and to me purple is the color of kings, but I don’t see myself as a king in the regular sense. I see everyone as a king of their own world. They say the Persian kings all wore purple and that they were more wealthy than anyone, and that the ceasars ripped off that style, to this day purple is supposed to be associated with leadership and politicians wear purple ties and that shit goes back to that, so part of me likes the idea of the purpleness of the plum name because plums are purple, only because of the Persian aspect. But fuck, kings get poisoned by their uniks so fuck em. The voice I use is highly influenced by Katherine Hepburn, the old actress. I don’t know if that's how you spell her name. I’ve had a lot of identity crises so using my birth name is a challenge for me. I’ve had jobs where I’d show up and use a British accent for three or four days just because I’m fucked up like that. Part of me likes presenting myself as someone else but I also realize that most the people will have no idea who the fuck Curtis Plum is.”
