Becko, born Marco Calanca in 1988, is an Italian producer based in Rome, Italy. He gained initial recognition as a member of the post-hardcore band Hopes Die Last, contributing as a bassist, keyboardist, and clean vocalist. Marco departed from the band in 2015 to pursue his solo endeavors as Becko, while also rejoining Hopes Die Last upon their reunion in 2022.
Throughout his musical career, Becko has been associated with various bands, including Hopes Die Last (2004-2015), Dungeon Elite (2006-2014), A Fallen Star, and A Perfect Tragedy, where he served as a vocalist and bass player. However, he eventually ventured into his solo project, focusing on electronic dance music (EDM) production. He currently has a side-project with half It's Different called XO SAD.
Becko's music draws influences from a diverse range of genres, including EDM, hip-hop, industrial, and emo rock. His musical influences trace back to the iconic band Linkin Park, whose ability to blend diverse genres served as a source of inspiration for Becko's own artistic exploration.
"Run Away" delves into the profound themes of toxic relationships and their impact on individuals and society as a whole. Although the song is not autobiographical, it draws inspiration from the experiences of friends and the emotions he observed in them.
Throughout his career, Becko has worked with notable record labels, including Warner Italy, Universal Italy, Monstercat, Lowly Palace and Smash The House. In early 2020, he signed a multi-album deal with FiXT, an independent electronic-rock label based in the United States.
Since then, Becko has released the full-length album "INNER SELF" in 2020, which showcased a fusion of trap and metal elements. In 2021, he unveiled a series of singles, including "Darkest Days," produced by Mike Shinoda, as a prelude to his second full-length trap-metal album with FiXT titled "You Are (Not) Alone". Currently, Becko is in the process of unveiling his latest concept album, "Present Day//Present Time," characterized by a 90s-inspired aesthetic, with the lead single "Home" paving the way for its anticipated full release in 2023. Looking ahead, Becko has ambitious plans for the coming year, aiming to release three new albums. Read more on Last.fm.
