Alten Kompoten are siblings Matej and Natália from Slovakia, Vráble. They were active between 2014 - 2016.
The base of their music are sounds, they recorded mostly outside and then looped, sampled or collaged in their home studio, where vocals, music instruments or sounds of household objects were recorded. They never composed any of their songs - they were only improvising or using some of their dadaistic ideas (recording without loudspeakers, playing the piano blindfolded, creating random chaos in DAW, etc.). Lyrics came in same way, mostly from meaningless snippets of conversations they have heard.
Unpreparedness was their main element of music-making, as the best way to capture the momentary mood or idea without carrying about the result. They released 3 studio albums and one best-of compilation during two years, making together 37 tracks avaible to listeners (including extras).
After Natalia decided to leave the duo in first half of 2016, Alten Kompoten as a studio band became inactive. Matej formed a live band called Alten Kompoten Big Band with four other people, who plays the original studio songs in a new concert arrangements. Even though the live versions may be different from studio recordings, the philosophy of dadaistic music-making and music genre non-cocretness or eclectism remains the same. Read more on Last.fm.
