Edith Salmen is a German composer and percussionist.

Born in Feiburger, is one of the first generation of women in the German drum world. She first studied with Bernhard Wulff in her hometown and then attended Karl Peinkofer's master class at the Munich University of Music.

Already as a student she got the opportunity to play stage music for spoken theater, to compose or to have the musical direction. In addition to all solo and chamber music activities, this always remained a focus of her engagement. After all, from 1996 to 2002 she was responsible for the SWR Baden-Baden program "Lyrik und Musik".

Her concerts have taken her all over the world and to the big festivals in Lisbon, Montepulciano, Rignano sul Arno, Donaueschingen, Hitzacker, Witten, Seoul, Taipei and Atlanta.

Edith Salmen premiered many works by, among others, Stockhausen, Rihm, Veerhoff, Hölszky, Hamel. She was a member of the German Drum Ensemble and the Percussion Art Quartet.
