There, original members Carter Beckworth, Reed Barrett, and Simon Page added drummer Rex Rizk and bassist Chris Friend. Songwriter Carter Beckworth composes the bulk of Baker Hotel’s songs, though in a group comprised of life-long musicians, there is no denying among the band that all members take a collaborative approach in developing the raw-folk, southern alt-rock that is the music of Baker Hotel. The guys have taken no hesitation in making a deep mark upon the soul of Austin’s live music culture – giving a steady stream of live performances while writing the band’s debut album. Solidifying their presence and quickly proving their ability to draw a crowd in the live music capitol of the world, Baker Hotel landed a weekly, Thursday night set for the 2008 summer on the outdoor stage at Austin’s Tiniest Bar in Texas. Watching their fan base take rise, they expanded their horizons, playing countless venues across the state and following famed acts like Bob Schneider and Micky and the Motorcars.
