The more things change, the more they stay the same. Four years and two bands after the break-up of Gods Reflex, Zach Newman, Marcus Spitzmiller, and Jesse Carmona found themselves once again living in the same city. Frustrated with the direction independent music had taken since their departure in 2003, they decided to get together to work on a song Spitzmiller had written. One song became three, and the group began writing and demoing songs for a new band. A sense of urgency developed, and within a year, the band had written an album. The band (which still had no name) began recording in the summer of 2007 and halfway through the recording process, the group realized that they had written the next Gods Reflex record.

When It’s Down To This was recorded by Mark Muraski (Cheap Trick, Cory Chisel, Comedy Central/The Colbert Report) over several months and is the most ambitious work by the band to date. Lyrically, Newman has never been so revealing. He has created stories that are deeply personal while maintaining their relevancy to the rest of us, and his candor pays off. Musically, the band has pushed themselves to pursue new territory while staying grounded in the band they have always been. Songs like "When It’s Down To This" offer a vision that will attract a new audience while retaining a familiarity that will satisfy even the most particular of long-time fans. New and old listeners alike will be pleased to say that 10 years after the release of their first album, Gods Reflex has returned to remind their contemporaries how this music is made.

*past description*

Gods Reflex was a band hailing from Rockton, IL. God's Reflex signed to Chicago's Legendary Johann's Face Records when it's members were only 17.

At the time, the band strove to shift from the current Chicago trend of raucious punk rock to more intelligent, introspective music, produced in a DIY atmosphere. Their sound is instantly recognizable, and had a direct impact in shaping what became known as Midwest Emo.

Gods Reflex only released two albums: "A Brief Lesson in Affection," and the Critically Acclaimed "Scenes From A Motel Seduction."
While the band may not have reached the commercial success of some of their contemporaries (Alkaline Trio, The Smoking Popes), they are fondly remembered by their fans worldwide, and are still cited as a strong influence on many Midwest bands today.
