Since first appearing on the local scene, many have forecasted promising things for hip hop duo Justice & Kaos, formerly known as Third World Militia. Landing a record deal through Solid State Recordings/Warner Music, however, was something they could never have imagined would happen so soon. After a handful of appearances on widely acclaimed releases such as DJ Nino Brown and DJ Samrais Blazin 5 compilation, 2005s Nuffsaid compilation Incase You Didn’t Know (The Takeover) and Weapon X & Ken Hells Sickcuntion Luncheon Mixtape, Justice & Kaos are ready to launch head-first into the music industry amidst an interesting climate for local hip hop. Known to put on a fast-paced, energetic stage show with strong stage presence and crowd interaction, the duo have attracted a buzz amongst the Melbourne hip hop fraternity and are about to release their debut EP, coming off the back of recent international success in the MC battle circuit.

Born of Malaysian and Australian parents, Justice grabbed onto hip hop and the art of rhyme with both hands after discovering it a few years ago and is yet to look back. He has proven his credentials in recent years by literally conquering everything the MC battle circuit has put before him. With titles including the 2003 Doublebeef MC Battle, 2004 Battle for Supremacy Australian Final, 2004 Revolver MC Championships, and the big trio in 2005 (Battle for Supremacy Victorian Final, Australian Final and the Australia vs New Zealand Final), there is no name more recognised and accomplished in the Australian battle scene. This was proven in 2005, where he was not only given a spot in the holy grail for battle MCs, Ohio USAs Scribble Jam, but ended up snatching the title, the $US10,000 prize money and new found respect from the American scene. Justice is the only non-American MC to achieve victory at Scribble Jam or any large-scale US MC Battle. With a focus now on recorded material Justice is set to show doubters that his success so far is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, having his sights set on even greater heights. A technically sound MC, he aims to merge his super-crisp and technical delivery with a presence and song-writing ability that will enable him to take his music all the way to the top of the international hip hop game.

The son of a former Indian Davis Cup player and a former Miss India, Kaos arrived in Australia after spending the first 5 years of his life in Nigeria. Spending his teen years teaching himself the art of beat-making, MCing and DJing, he watched from the outside giving himself an education and insight into the Australian hip hop scene. In an attempt to build a name, Kaos began doing the rounds on the local battle circuit and although no slouch on the battle tip (represented Australia in the 2005 Aus v NZ Battle for Supremacy) he always had bigger aspirations. Kaos has always aimed to expand his repertoire, focusing intensely on both song-writing and production. Making beats and writing raps have always gone hand-in-hand for Kaos, but the last few years have seen him merge the two into an ability to write structurally-sound songs as opposed to mere verses over beats. 2005 has seen him mature incredibly as a recording artist and this, as many will agree, is just the beginning. His attention to detail and aspirations to bring something different to hip hop in Australia are prevalent in both his production and lyrical content.

With the upcoming release of their debut EP out on Solid State/Warner, 2006 and beyond is looking promising for Justice and Kaos. Looking to capitalise on recent successes and harboured talent, the duo are hoping to make inroads into territory not many local artists have ventured into. Read more on Last.fm.
