It all started out with Two Fat Guys & A Portugee...that was the band name and the description of its members. After a party over the December 2000 winter break, five guys decided to form a band and start taking it seriously. Shortly after, the band named themselves Shipyard Wreck and began playing their original songs and cover songs out at local scenes.
Over the next year, Shipyard Wreck had recorded demo CDs for promotional use mostly and one CD ("Get Wrecked"), comprised of eleven original songs. Although the CD was never released, due to poor recording quality, the band began to play more and more at various places.
The band was set back a little when their bassist had to leave for personal reasons and again, months later, when their disinterested guitarist was asked to leave. Shipyard's rhythm guitarist, Dan O'Rourke, assumed position on the bass and the band acquired John Fernandes, a local time-bomb, who was studying guitar at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth.
John became a big influence to the band and sparked a new flame in the band. Original song writing increased immensely along with live jamming and many other aspects of Shipyard Wreck's music. With John on electric guitar, James began playing acoustic guitar and the sound began to evolve further.
The band is now James Gagne, John Fernandes, Dan O'Rourke, and Peter Magalhaes. The band currently plays over 150 shows per year and is constantly working on new material, ideas and recordings.
Currently, the band is in the studio recording their professional-quality album, "Reflect & Shine", which they hope propels them to spread their music to the world. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
