DeMarcus Whittenburg known as Yung King in the music world was born Jan. 4th 1980. Came from a small town called Troutman nicknamed the 3 stop light city. Growin up with 2 other siblings he was the youngest in the house but always had a passion for music. He attended South Iredell High School & accelled in sports but was derailed by his run in with the law. He still manage to graduate high school put college on the back burner. He began to run the streets heavy saling drugs that he became known for. But he still kept music on his mind cause that was always his calling. In 2003 he formed Grip Tight Records. A small indie label in his city. He began scouting local talent to fill the roster of GTR. With a mixtape release followed by the GRIP TIGHT RECORDS compilation called "THE TAKEOVER" the streets began to buzz. Along with the cd release they had merchadise like GTR towels & shirts. Everything was looking up. As they began to work on the follow up to "THE TAKEOVER" a couple small labels began to take notice & call. But due to the egos of the artist things began to fall apart. After rebuilding & clearing the roster he came back better & more determined than ever. Better artist, fresh ideas & most importly a loyal team. They released the mixtape called "THE HATERS EDITION" a answer to all the critics that thought GTR was done. Saling over 2,500 mixtapes in such a short time he knew GTR was officially back. Releasing a second mixtape to promote the up coming album. The second mixtape was called "THE WIRE". Naming the mixtape after HBO's highly watched t.v. show "THE WIRE" which was really a look back from the trapper life style that YUNG KING had lef but owed some much to. Track after track the cd was filled with street anthems. Months later the release of his debut "SWAG OVERLOAD" had hit the streets & caught the ears of the streets & a cople of business owners. This album solitified him as not only a business man but a real artist. He still has a ways to go but has already come so far. With labels deals already in the works who knows which major label will be luck enough to have YUNG KING on their roster. Read more on Last.fm.
