Born and raised on the mean streets of BedStuy, this Brooklyn native used to dream of becoming a fixture in the music industry.
She always had song in her heart and started to write when she was still in High School. She won a literary award and decided that writing was her second passion to singing.
Starting out in R&B, she hooked up with Cliff Blount in 1993, who became her manager and guided her through vocal coaching at Double Phat Studios in NYC.
Creating her own sense of style, there she learned how to use her vocal ability and started to write songs in collaboration with Terrance Hope of Hopetown Records, among many others.
While delving into the "neosoul" jazz, she met with reknown house music producer Henry Maldonado, and discovered a newfound passion - House Music.
Her first cut Sunshine was put out by none other than Masters At Work Records. It was then that she decided she was here to stay.
Her next few collabs were with the Megamen (always electric DJ Joseph & Will Rosario), including I See The Light from the "Purple Keys" ep.
After rave reviews and interviews (including a spot on Listen NYC), she was invited to and performed at the 2003 Winter Music Conference.
Since then, she's been unstoppable; featured on many more tracks working successfully with the Ghetto Soul connoisseurs, formerly The Megamen, on the dripping wet soul track, All I Need, (featured in house compilation CDs, including Ghetto Soul Sessions Vol. I and DA Sequel), Closer (with remixes done by E Bar and Ramie Burns of Sifted Recordings) the popular favorite Inner Music on Next Moov Records and remixed by a bevy of super-talented producers, and a transic type, Give It All To Me, also available for digital downloads on the Version 3.0 ep on Next Dimension Music.
This past summer, she had three digital releases listed on the Top 10 downloads on Beatport.com under the Next Dimension Music label for three weeks in a row and has even been named Artist of The Month at the labels music site this summer. Working in collaboration with the proprietor of Next Dimension Music and their myriad of worldwide producers and musicians, she has realized her dream... "Being in the studio brings me to a state of euphoria. I can't live without that high!", says SolyMar in a recent phone conversation. "It’s so important to be able to collaborate and be on the same wave-length. There is nothing like it in the world, this creation process. Especially working with people who are millions of miles away."
With that said, we eagerly await the next batch of tracks graced with her sensualistic vocals...
Be on the look out for several upcoming digital releases that are sure to have all pulses racing.
