Joseph Badejo (born December 6th, 2001), professionally known as wolfacejoeyy, is a Nigerian-American recording artist and producer from Staten Island, New York. Primarily known for his soft, emotive, and R&B-driven melodic rap sound, joeyy has made a name for himself from the underground up into the mainstream.
In an interview with The FADER, wolfacejoeyy reveals his name was an inspiration from Tyler, The Creator:
So obviously Wolf came from Tyler, [but] Ace also came from Tyler. A lot of people don’t know that his name was Ace the Creator at one point. I wanted “Ace” in my name [because] ace means perfect and I wanted everything I did to be perfect.
joeyy’s career began as just a producer, working with popular underground artists such as SoFaygo, whom he had met in an Instagram group chat. He started to record his own music after being inspired by his friends and having expressed his dissatisfaction with producing and eventually released his first single “omg” in November 2019.
He would release many loose singles in 2020 and into 2021 when he first saw himself gain attention from the public with his single “miss me.” In an interview with Viper Mag, he said that this track was what made him realize that he would find success with music:
I think the first time I realized I can take my music places was when I dropped this song called ‘Miss Me’, and that was the first time labels started to call me and offer me deals.
joeyy would stay consistent throughout 2021 and 2022, further experimenting with and evolving his sound. He dropped hues vol. 1 in February—an R&B EP that was much different than the “underground” rap sound he had been making before. This project, along with his previously released EPs—home and it’s just us—and the success of “miss me” gained him popularity in the underground scene.
In March 2023, he dropped his breakout single, “buku,” which track helped him land a deal with Alamo Records and later get a remix featuring SoFaygo. It was produced by good friend and producer Whereis22, who joeyy works with often, even dropping a collaborative mixtape later that year. Around this time, joeyy would adopt the Sexy Drill sound before its blowup with tracks such as “weekend” and “rubi,” which were both featured on the aforementioned tape.
joeyy saw even more success in 2024 with the rapid growth of the Sexy Drill sound, starting the year off by releasing “wya,” and “don’t be dishonest,” and gaining viral success with tracks like “cake” and “finsta.” On May 15, joeyy released his long-awaited debut album Valentino which had received positive feedback from various publications, such as Pitchfork and Clash Magazine, solidifying his spot in the industry. Following Valentino’s release, joeyy would continue to see success with viral hits such as “finsta,” “nympho” with BEAM, and “Dallas” with A Boogie wit da Hoodie. Wrapping up 2024, joeyy would release a teaser EP titled before cupid, consisting of tracks recorded during cupid’s sessions.
Entering into 2025, on January 8, joeyy would release his sophomore studio album cupid, to which it included the previously mentioned songs. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
