jo0ji (ジョージ) is a Japanese singer-songwriter known for his atmospheric sound, introspective lyricism, and artwork contributions to his own releases. His music has drawn attention from various industry professionals for its emotional depth and for his distinctive creative style.

Born in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, jo0ji grew up near the sea in a family rooted in the local fishing industry. His father works as a fisherman, and jo0ji himself remains involved in operations at a nearby fishing port. While pursuing music, he continues to maintain strong ties to this background.

jo0ji did not initially plan to become a musician. He began making music only a few years ago, inspired when a friend started creating rap songs. His early intention was simply to produce music for that friend, but he soon found enjoyment in constructing melodies and arrangements on his own. Alongside digital production tools, he frequently relies on the piano he learned as a child.

His debut track, “Fukutsu ni hana” (不屈に花), was released on YouTube in August 2022. Written for a friend who was struggling, the song was originally crafted with a playful intention, but it ended up resonating deeply with listeners. Although it did not go viral, it attracted notable attention from industry figures and contributed to growing interest in his work.

This momentum continued with the release of his EP 475 (pronounced “yo-nah-go”), which features four additional tracks that highlight his emotive writing style and unconventional production choices. The EP strengthened his reputation as an emerging artist with significant potential.

Despite being new to the music scene, jo0ji has already collaborated with prominent creatives, including members of the Japanese band WONK, the creative director unit Margt from PERIMETRON (led by King Gnu’s Tsuneta Daiki), and visual art director Shintaro Kira.

His talent has been recognized through features in RADAR: Early Noise 2024 and Amazon’s Breakthrough Japan, both highlighting him as a promising rising artist. In a published interview, the editor-in-chief of Rockin’ On Japan noted that jo0ji creates music that makes “a wide range of listeners think, ‘I’ve been waiting for an artist like this.’”

Although he did not originally aspire to a musical career, jo0ji’s unique sound, thoughtful lyrics, and growing body of work have positioned him as one of Japan’s notable emerging voices.
