[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
I'll leave some cats aside quick; in the turnin lane
Them boys really think they're slick; in the turnin lane
But if they even try trippin; in the turnin lane
I'ma have to empty out my clip; in the turnin lane
I keep my eyes wide open; in the turnin lane
Me and my infrared dot scopin; in the turnin lane
Haters hate to congratulate, mad at me cause I'm lookin great
Don't wanna grind just wanna hate, you crummy and I'll run yo 'plate
I'm Mike Jones - WHO? Mike Jones, from the Dirty South
They say my grill clean so you know I ain't got no dirty mouth
2 8 1, 3 3 oh, eight zero zero fo'
Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mikes Jones about to blow
2 8 1, 3 3 oh, eight zero zero fo'
Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mikes Jones about to blow
2 8 1, 3 3 oh, eight zero zero fo'
Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mikes Jones about to blow

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
I ride on the swang, I grip on woodgrain
I sip on purple drink Rover Range in the turnin lane
I got Escalade ESV's in my drop I watch DVD's
Now I'm hot hoes peepin me spittin game and come home with me; in the turnin lane
But befo' all this fame came, I sold cocaine to maintain
Day to day grind to stackin change, I did it to have thangs
Now I'm in it to win it drop the top 24 spinnin
I got diamonds in my grill, you can't tell when I'm grinnin; in the turnin lane
Befo' I got on a major, I was underground stackin that paper
Career pimps players and hustlers don't mess with them haters
My album - "Who is Mike Jones" in ya sto'
My album - "Who is Mike Jones" in ya sto' - cause

Turning Lane Lyrics

Who? Mike Jones! Who? Mike Jones! Who? Mike Jones!
2 8 1, 3 3 oh, eight zero zero fo' baby, geah!

[Chorus: Mike Jones]
I'm holdin wood wheel in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
Piece and chain shinin in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
TV screens rain in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
I'm gettin brain from yo' dame in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
I'm holdin wood wheel in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
My candy paint leavin stains in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
Them cats a muggin better chill in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane
I got my hand on the steel in the turnin lane - in the turnin lane

[Mike Jones]
I got that candy paint drippin, dabbers spinnin; in the turnin lane
Diamonds shinin, fifth wheel reclinin; in the turnin lane
Screens fall, 24's crawl; in the turnin lane
You know me, I ain't trippin 'bout the laws; in the turnin lane
Me and Mellow pull up real slow; to the turnin lane
Whip lookin like it's in a car show; in the turnin lane
My neck wrist and fist filled with snow; in the turnin lane
Call me conceited cause I jam my own clothes; in the turnin lane
While I'm waitin I blow green and sip lean; in the turnin lane
Seems like this light ain't gon' never turn green; in the turnin lane
But I ain't rushin because I got time, try to keep up behind
and I'ma hit ya with that nine; see in the turnin lane
Piece and chain icy rang showin; in the turnin lane
Show my grills and diamonds start glowin; in the turnin lane
I'm jammin Screw music while I'm waitin; in the turnin lane
"Who is Mike Jones?" anticipated; in the turnin lane

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
I'll leave some cats aside quick; in the turnin lane
Them boys really think they're slick; in the turnin lane
But if they even try trippin; in the turnin lane

At least three artists share this name:

1) A southern rap artist from the northside of Houston, TX, born January 6, 1981.

Mike Jones has become well-known for his unique repetition of his own name throughout his songs. Many of his songs contain the phrases "Who is Mike Jones?" or "Mike Jones!" His major promotional gimmick is to sell and hand out shirts with his cell phone number on them (athletic department-style shirts reading "Property of Mike Jones"), as well as shouting out the number throughout his mixtapes and albums, encouraging fans to call him on his Motorola phone.

Jones is known for recording in the "chopped & screwed" style popularized by DJ Screw, also of Houston. The slowed-down audio aesthetic supposedly mimics the effect of "sippin' sizzurp," that is, cough syrup containing codeine. Most followers of the chopped & screwed style claim that it has outgrown its drug-related roots. Jones' trademark technique is to take a line from one of his songs and use it as a chorus in another, or sometimes even in the same song, screwing, chopping and repeating it (for example, the chorus to "Back Then" is sampled from the track "Still Tippin").

Jones has used repetition of certain words and phrases extensively in his songs. An example of this can be found in songs such as Back Then when he constantly repeats "Mike Jones" and "Who is Mike Jones." As a result, he has come under intense scrutiny or criticism from fellow rappers in his native Houston such as rappers Chamillionaire and Lil' Flip who have accused Mike Jones of copying their slang or criticized his aforementioned rapping style.

2) Solo pianist. Mike Jones (born August 11, 1962) is an American jazz pianist. He has appeared onstage with Penn and Teller since 2006, and continues to play with them during their nightly show in Las Vegas.

He first garnished praise as a young musician, performing professionally at the age of ten. Following the advice of Oscar Peterson, Jones attended Berklee School of Music, in Boston. While still attending the school he started work as a studio musician.

During his time commuting from Boston to New York, Jones worked as the on-air pianist and music director of the Nancy Merrill Show. He also appeared throughout the New England area with jazz musicians Herb Pomeroy, Gray Seargent, Dick Johnson, and others. In 1994 his first solo recording on Chiaroscuro Records, "Oh, Look At Me Now" was released. This was followed by "Runnin' Wild" recorded live in Buffalo, NY, his hometown, and then "Live At Steinway Hall", in New York City.

3) An experimental tape artist from Cardiff, Wales.

Mike Jones ran the CTOANR cassette tape label in the early eighties which featured the likes of Artists such as The Stripey Zebras's, Instant Automatons and other independent artists. Mike was also a recording artist and played in The Chromosomes, Effigies (UK) and released solo work.

Recordings from Mike and The Chromosomes were released in 2008 by the American Label Hyped2Death. The album Messthetics: Greatest Hiss features "Reckless Policies" from Mikes 1981 solo Album "Pretty Flowers", "Hi Fi Know How" by The Chromosomes plus a Cardiff based radio competition where his band finished third (out of three).

Since 1985 Mike has played in the punk/techno/C86 band named Otalgia (which is a medical term for earache). Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
