Go Hard Go Hungry Lyrics

I have a little voice in my head
More a song so soflty sung
And he's gently chiding me
He sings of raising my heart to exceed all this fear
And this doubt, he says, highlights me

In the desperate moments I long for him
Just to cease, he just sings much louder
His baleful reprieve, if I say

I will, then I will be saved, he says
That I must go hard or go hungry
These are the rules of the good times, baby
Go hard or go hungry
No other reason to live, my baby

I am just wondering on, I say
I have a song, I say, of my own, I say

And as these birthdays just fall and aren't returned
I can hear him loud, 'cause he must be heard

In the desperate moments I long for him
Just to cease, he just sings much louder
His baleful reprieve, if I say

I will, then I will be saved, he says
That I must go hard or go hungry
These are the rules of the good times, baby
Go hard or go hungry
No other reason to live, my baby

You didn't bring me to the face of the world
Just to cry freedom and then return
We stand as one, with your hand on my back
I must go on
We stand as one, with your hand on my back
I must go on

My child, it's your time
Go hard or go hungry
These are the rules of the good times, baby
Go hard or go hungry
No other reason to live, my baby

Go hard or go hungry
These are the reasons we live, baby
